Expensive Gridlock Sam,

Why is avenue parking still no cost in NYC?

Pricey Charles,

Ah, Charles, if we can only turn again the clock 70 decades or so. It wasn’t till 1954 that the town formally permitted overnight parking but by the late ‘40s and early ‘50s, as car or truck possession boomed, the police dismissed it. My father’s ‘47 Dodge was parked right away on Tapscott St in Brownsville at all hours. Immediately after Alternate Side Parking was introduced in the ‘50s, cops started ignoring double-parking in some neighborhoods on street-cleaning days. Now the authorities are letting drivers with faux paper plates, out-of-state plates and even no plates to park on our streets.

It’s time for the city to clamp down on phony paper plates, phony placards and phony out-of-condition registration! Several cities charge citizens a fee to park right away. I just do not see that in the cards with the present-day administration.
